Google Gemini Spotify Extension with play and search functions rolling out
Google has released a new Gemini extension for Spotify that lets users play and search for music on the service by interacting with the Gemini AI assistant on Android Smartphones. As per an update on the Gemini Support page, users may now utilize the Google Gemini extension play and search feature for particular albums, songs, artists, playlists, and much more on Spotify, This comes after YouTube Music, which interfaces with Gemini, already has comparable capability.
After WhatsApp, being the first to provide Gemini-powered messaging and calling capabilities, Spotify is now the second third-party service to interface with Google's Gemini Artificial Intelligence assistant. Furthermore, Google has begun pushing out a new Gemini Utilities extension which lets users access Android settings, websites, and apps with voice commands.
Google stated that the Spotify extension can only be functional if Gemini is configured as the default assistant and set to the English language or within the Gemini app. The Gemini app for iOS doesn't yet have this capability.
Users must link their Spotify account to their Google account to utilize the Spotify extension. Once the login is done, users are allowed to open the app, and by tapping on their profile picture, they can go to extensions, where they can toggle on the Spotify option manually. Crucially, only Spotify Premium subscribers will be able to hear some specific song requests.
